Conductor - slide, tap, shake and select tempo
Conductor offers four ways to set the tempo: slide, tap, shake and select. The quickest way to enter a numerical tempo (for example 120 BPM) is to use the slider on the right of the screen with the nudge buttons underneath.
Sliding your finger up and down the tempo slider (A) gives you a quick and coarse control which you can then fine tune with the plus and minus nudge buttons (B)
The slider control has been designed and tested to give you the most efficient and simple numerical entry, but this is not always the most effective way of describing tempo. Sometimes, you just know how fast something should go. So, Conductor also allows you to enter a tempo by either tapping the screen or shaking your device. Also, Conductor will do its best to work out how many beats in the bar you want — if you like. You can turn off the tap and shake input independently.
When tap tempo is turned on, tap anywhere over the ball to indicate your timing.
Here you can see the orange circles that appear to signify a successful tap or shake. If you have beat guessing turned on, then the number of beats you tap or shake will be set as the number of beats per bar
Give a definite flick downwards to indicate a beat — you need to flick quite hard to prevent accidental beats being counted. The orange circles will appear to signify a beat
When Conductor is guessing the beats per bar, the tap or shake icons light up. This lets you know that Conductor is listening for the number of beats you need.
If you make a mistake while tapping or shaking, then wait for the icon to dim again before retrying otherwise Conductor may get confused.
This example shows how the tap icon gets brighter when Conductor is guessing beats. The amount of time before it dims again is determined by your tapping speed
The final way to set the tempo and beats per bar, is to use the selector in the settings page. To access the settings page, just tap the top of the screen.
Tapping the top of the screen opens the settings page. From here you can also adjust the settings for tap and shake tempo
